Axworthy Drive

There are many how-to's around for the Axworthy drive so I won't go into a lot of detail on the operating principals of the original design. I didn't really care for the belt drive method sharing the same wheel as the driven line. I also didn't need a huge unit as I wanted this one indoors just to fly a small "ghost" around the back wall of my garage scene. This is what I came up with...

A co-worker salvaged this motor and gear reduction box knowing I would have a better use for it than the dumpster would. The final drive speed is about 60 rpm

I had a length of #25 chain and a couple of 8" plastic wheels from a scooter, so with a quick check in the All Electronics catalog, I found the sprockets I needed.

A piece of aluminum plate was used for the main chassis.

The original mounting brackets were intended to mount between rafter trusses but a better location required a change in mounts. Here it is in place. The driven line goes around this wheel to another idler wheel of the same size on the other end.
